Competition & Guest Instructors

Bring Your Match. Bring Your Class.

Packsaddle is a venue for precision rifle matches and for guest instructors teaching their own courses. You bring the event. We provide the ground, with distance out to roughly 3,750 yards and high-angle terrain; the Lodge as your match HQ or classroom; and rooms and meals for your whole field at Horseshoe Bay Resort, about fifteen minutes away. Our first matches and guest courses are being scheduled for 2027.

The Venue

Stages You Cannot Build on Flat Ground

Most matches in Texas are shot on flat ranges with barricades standing in for terrain. Packsaddle is a mountain. Your stages can use the elevation, the angles and the distance.

Terrain

High-angle positions, rock, slope and natural barricades, ready to set to your course of fire.

Distance

Out to roughly 3,750 yards, with downrange cameras and electronic hit indicators.

After Dark

Suppressed, night vision and thermal work, on the same ground.

Exclusive Use

We close the facility to all other activities when your match needs the mountain to itself.

Range Staff

The team that runs this mountain every week can help plan and support your match or course, as much or as little as you want.

Parking

Ample, well-thought-out parking for competitors.

The Lodge

Your Match HQ or Classroom

About 3,000 square feet with registration, stats, briefings, TVs, live target cameras, showers and air conditioning, plus about 2,500 square feet of covered shooting decks. The Lodge is under construction and opens early 2027.

Formats

Built for the Matches and Courses You Run

These are the formats the mountain suits best. Running something else? Tell us about it.

Precision rifle

Positional, time-pressured, 300 to 1,200 yards. Barricades, props and natural terrain.

Hunter-style field matches

Cold-bore, field positions, realistic distances and angles. Built for the hunter, not the bench.

Extreme long range

Two-person teams, one rifle, out to roughly 3,750 yards.

Shooting and fitness

Rifle and pistol under physical load. Movement across real ground between stages.

Guest courses and clinics

Bring your curriculum and your students. We provide the ground, the classroom, the stay and the meals. Club matches and practice days too.

  • Every match and course comes with a room block at Horseshoe Bay Resort, about fifteen minutes from the range. Book through the link on your match page to get the group rate.
  • Most matches run Friday to Sunday, so we suggest arriving Thursday to check in at the resort. For select events, the range opens ahead of the match so you can check your zero.
  • Packsaddle is about an hour from Austin and about twenty minutes from Horseshoe Bay Resort Airport.

At the Range

  • Lunch is served at the range every match day; breakfast and dinner are at the resort.
  • Ammunition in common rifle and pistol calibers is stocked on site if you run short.
  • The match director’s or instructor’s safety brief governs the event; our range officers have final authority on the line.
  • Bringing family? The resort has pools, golf, a kids’ club and the lake.
